Boosting Your Reel’s Performance on Instagram

You know how to create Instagram Reel’s (read more here) and have a ton of ideas to engage your audience (read more here), now what?

We don’t want all that work to be for nothing and while it may seem that there is no rhyme or reason as to why things perform the way they do on social media there are some simple tips and tricks you can do to get the most out of your Reels.

  1. Use closed captions – Closed captions will keep viewers on your Reel for longer, as users will not only engage even if their sound is off – a lot of users keep their phones muted while scrolling so they can do other things –  but it will make the Reel accessible to those who are hearing impaired as well.
  1. Recycle your content – Resharing previous TikToks or repurposing older posts and stories as a Reel is a smart way to save yourself time and help you reach a new audience.
  1. Use music – Every time you use a song in a Reel, that song essentially acts as its own  hashtag and your Reel becomes discoverable under that song. That’s why you see so many videos using the same music, and songs, such as Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill and Abba’s Angeleyes, experiencing huge resurgences on social media.
  1. Add titles to your Reel cover photos – This makes it easy for viewers to quickly gain an understanding of both your business and your content, and makes your Reels appear more polished and professional.
  1. Tag relevant accounts – Tagging relevant accounts may feel like the first rule of social media – the second rule that we don’t talk about social media –  but it’s still worth considering when you post a new Reel as it can help your Reel gain more exposure, alerts the tagged account to you and your content and gives them the option to reshare it.
