We’ve spoken previously about the importance of finding the right social media platform for your audience (read more here), but have you ever considered that your audience might be on TikTok?
For the uninitiated, TikTok is a short form video sharing platform. Used by 20.83% of the world’s internet users, TikTok currently has 1 billion active users per month, with this number expected to rise to 1.8 billion by the end of 2022. In terms of Monthly Active Users (MAU), the platform is the sixth most popular in the world, with its user numbers surpassing those of Twitter, Snapchat, Pinterest and Reddit.
So why should you use TikTok for your business?
With so many users, TikTok offers the potential for businesses to raise brand awareness and reach a lot of people. We’ve put together a handy dandy guide to help get you started on TikTok:
Creating a TikTok account
- Go to Google Play or the App Store to download the TikTok app.
- Create an account, either through instant sign up using your Facebook, Twitter or Gmail account, or create a username and password.
- Go to your profile by tapping the Profile icon in the bottom right corner.
- Tap the Edit Profile button to add a username and bio. You can also connect your Instagram and Youtube accounts.
Already have a TikTok account? Here’s how you convert it to a business account
- Head to your profile page
- Tap the icon – it looks like three horizontal lines – in the top right corner
- Hit Manage Account
- Select Switch to Business Account
- Choose the category that best represents your business
- Hit Next.
Curating your feed
- You can view your feed by hitting the Home icon.
- As a new user, TikTok will show you random and trending videos until you start interacting. You do this by liking, commenting and sharing other people’s videos. The more active you are on the app, the more personalised your feed becomes.
- You can also search for specific videos, topics or content creators via the Search icon in the top right corner.
Creating your first video
- Launch the app
- Tap + at the bottom of the screen
- Set length of video
- Begin video by hitting the Record button or upload content from your device library
- Select desired effects, filters or sounds
- Tap the check mark
- Edit your video
- Write caption
- Post your video
