Overcoming creative block on social media

Creativity and social media go hand in hand, so what do you do when creative block hits, leaving you and your feed feeling a little lacklustre?

Once again, your favourite social media puffins are here to help with some handy tips and tricks to help get the creative juices flowing again.

Have a good scroll

When feeling uninspired the last thing you might want to do is scroll through social media, however, ignoring your social media feeds could be a mistake. Even while you’re not creating, scrolling through your social media, particularly keeping an eye out on accounts you like, will help you identify trends, which not only help you generate content but also ensure that your brand stays relevant.

Arrange a group brainstorm session

A creative brainstorming session with a colleague or a friend could be just the thing you need to shake your creative block, coming up with new ideas is always easier when you have someone to bounce them off, after all.

It’s also worth running ideas past your friends or family members, especially if they fall within your target audience, as this will give you an idea of what your followers want to see and why.

 Ask your followers

It’s not unheard of to ask your followers what kind of content they want to see. In fact, this is common practice on platforms such as Instagram, with influencers and businesses regularly polling their audiences on Instagram stories about their content preferences. Again, this will offer insight into what your audience wants to see from you allowing you to tailor your content accordingly.

Keep a ‘brain dump’ of your ideas

Keeping a ‘brain dump’ – an informal list of your thoughts– is a great way to get all your ideas out of your head for you to sort through at a later date. It can also serve as inspiration when you’re stuck in a rut. Similarly, it might be worth creating a shared doc where you and your colleagues can list content ideas to be reviewed on a weekly- or monthly-basis.

Take a break

If you’re really struggling then take a break. Put your phone down and do something else until you’re in a better frame of mind.
